Although we like the look of a Vanagon with square headlights, we never were impressed with their performance even when they were new. The alternative to improve the lighting for the square headlight van was to install the european version of the headlight (rectangular H4's), but VW deleted those too. In fact, VW has now deleted the USA version of the square headlight as well. There's not much the owner of 1986-on Vanagon could do now if they broke a headlight or just got tired of the poor lighting and this is why we came up with this kit.

This kit comes with 2 H4 headlights with buckets, the screws to install them, 2 H4 80/100w bulbs, 2 H4 pigtails, 1 headlight relay kit,The round headlight grill (uses the large emblem) and mounting kit and the emblem.

Of course there is also the option of the S.A. Grill kit which does give you the additional inner hibeams. For clarification of your comparison though please keep in mind that this kit includes the H4 lights - new buckets to attach them and the headlight relay kit all of which must be purchased separately if you go the SA grill kit route.
And one final note. When this kit is installed in an 86 and newer van, the grill will be attached with only three of the grill clips (both outers and the center) instead of all five. It is still sufficient to secure the grill firmly.
And one more final note....the outer perimeter of the grill has silver finish. Please understand that all of the grills have some degree of scuffing of the silver finish.
